Familiar Eggs
Bringing back a lost familiar, and hatching new ones in a familiar bed.
Familiar Eggs hatch familiars in a familiar bed. There are three kinds:

Eggs don't stack. Each egg is tinted in its familiar's color.
Bringing back a lost familiar
When one of your familiars dies or is released, its essence lingers in the dimension where it happened. Right-click with an empty egg to open the egg screen:
- Left: your familiars lost in this dimension, newest first, marked Released or Fallen with how long ago.
- Right: the selected familiar next to a preview of its egg.
- Egg color: under the previews, choose the egg's color: Default color (the familiar's own egg color) or one of its color layers, shown with a swatch of its current color. Layers in their original look give the default color.
- Choose binds the familiar to the egg. It can't be changed afterwards, and the egg's tooltip shows who it holds.
Rules:
- Only your own familiars can be brought back, and only in the dimension where they were lost.
- Each dimension remembers your last 20 lost familiars; older ones fade away.
A bound egg is the only copy of its familiar, so it's protected: it can't burn, never despawns on the ground and can only be destroyed by the void.
Hatching

Right-click a free familiar bed with a bound or typed egg. The egg sits on the bed, turned with it.

It takes 5 minutes to be ready. It cracks halfway through, then cracks more and starts to wobble near the end.

Once ready, it hatches as soon as its owner:
- is online and in the same dimension;
- has a free spot among the familiars they carry (see Config);
- has fewer than 10 familiars summoned.
While it waits, its owner gets a message every 10 seconds when within 16 blocks, saying what's missing.

The familiar hatches at half health, already summoned, and falls asleep in the bed to heal.
Who gets it:
- A bound egg always hatches for the player who lost the familiar, whoever placed it.
- A typed egg hatches for whoever placed it. The new familiar starts with its original colors, except familiars whose colors come from the biome, which take the colors of the biome where they hatch. Its colors are unlocked in the compendium, like taming one.
Good to know:
- Breaking the bed, even with an explosion, drops the egg. A typed egg drops as a plain typed egg again, so whoever places it next becomes the owner.
- The time counts even while the bed's chunk is unloaded: the egg hatches once it's loaded and its owner can take it.
- In creative mode, the Familiars Lib tab has a typed egg for every familiar in the game, including other mods' familiars. JEI lists each one separately.
