Runestones
Awakening, naming and protecting runestones, and the ancient ones found in the world.
Runestones
States
Every player sees each runestone in their own state:
| State | When | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Dormant | You haven't touched it yet | Tablets and frame lie scattered on the ground, the crystal rests tilted and low, nothing glows |
| Awakening | Your first right-click | The pieces rise one after another, the crystal lifts, the runes light up |
| Idle | You know it | The crystal floats and turns, the tablets bob in a wave, ring and frame turn against each other |
| Active | You know it and stand within 6 blocks | Same as idle, but faster |
Two players standing next to each other can see the same runestone asleep and awake. The player who places a runestone knows it right away, global runestones are awake for everyone.
While dormant, only the pile on the ground can be clicked. Once awake, the whole stone can be targeted. The stone only has a low base you can step onto - you never bump into floating pieces.
Names
New runestones get a random name from a list of 200 fantasy names, never one that's already taken. Names are limited to 20 characters. To rename a stone, click the name plate in the ring.
Ownership and protection
| Break | Rename and change mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Your own runestone | Owner, operators, creative players | Owner, operators, creative players |
| Global runestone | Operators, creative players - and the owner if players_can_set_global is true | Same as break |
| Ancient runestone | Operators, creative players | Operators, creative players |
Explosions, water and lava can't destroy runestones, and pistons can't move them. Turning off protect_runestones lets everyone break every runestone. A broken runestone drops itself and disappears from everyone's ring.
Ancient runestones
Pre-built runestones stand in open stone pavilions with a copper roof:
- Villages: every village has exactly one pavilion - in all vanilla village types and in village mods that use the vanilla house pools
- Wilderness: rare pavilions on dry land in the Overworld - plains, forests, taiga, jungles, savannas, deserts, badlands, hills, meadows and cherry groves. Never on water
Ancient runestones belong to nobody: everyone can awaken and use them, but only operators and creative players can break or rename them. They get their name the first time someone touches them.
Find the nearest pavilion with /locate structure verox_rpg_runestones:ancient_runestone. Pavilions only generate in newly explored chunks.
