Coins
How money works in Arcadia: silver, gold and crystal coins, banking, earning, spending and saving.
Coins
Money in Arcadia is not a normal inventory item. This page explains everything: the three coin types, how to bank and withdraw them, where coins come from, what to spend them on, and how to save well.
The three coins
| Coin | Value | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Coin | 1 | Small purchases, contracts, early quests |
| Gold Coin | 50 | The everyday currency for gear, supplies and manuals |
| Crystal Coin | 2,500 | Licenses, perks and the rarest treasures |
Conversion at a glance
| Silver | Gold | Crystal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Gold | 50 | 1 | |
| 1 Crystal | 2,500 | 50 | 1 |
Banking and withdrawing
Your money is stored on your person.
- Right-click a coin to bank it. It is added to your balance.
- To spend, use the buttons in your inventory screen to pull coins back out as items.
- Shop quests take coins from your inventory, not straight from your balance. Withdraw first, then submit.
- Coins are per player. In multiplayer, each person has their own balance.
Tip: keep a small handful of each coin type in your inventory at all times. Some quests ask you to hold coins rather than spend them.
Every price is in a single coin type
A Vault price is always quoted in one coin type, for example "10 Gold Coins" or "1 Crystal Coin." You cannot pay a gold price with silver or the other way round. Withdraw the coin type you need.
Where coins come from

The Contract Board

The Codex
Every entry pays 25 to 40 silver. Each Chronicler's Note pays gold and a permanent perk, and The Truth of the Shadowfall pays a crystal coin. See The Codex.
Character Paths
Each tier pays silver or gold. The fifth tier of five Paths pays a crystal coin. See Character Paths.
Mystery Crates
Gold and crystal crates can pay out coins, sometimes more than you paid.
Elsewhere in the world
Some coins may also turn up as loot. Never skip a chest.

Saving well
The Vault is designed to give you reasons to save. Some quests reward you for holding coins and some only for spending them.
Hold-to-complete quests
These pay you without spending anything.
| Quest | Hold | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Nest Egg | 100 silver | XP levels and a Gathering level |
| Strongbox | 50 gold | +1 heart (permanent) and XP levels |
| Dragon's Hoard | 150 gold | +1 luck (permanent), XP levels and 10 gold |
| Crystal Vault | 5 crystal | +2 hearts (permanent), XP levels and a crystal coin |
Trick: hit the milestone, claim the reward, then spend the coins. Nothing is consumed.
Collector's Shelf
Hold a whole set (all eight Cataclysm eyes, all eight bows, six great chestplates and more) and the Ledgerkeeper pays you. See The Vault.
What to buy first (a sample plan)

Common questions
Why can't I pay with silver when the price is in gold?
Every price is quoted in a single coin type. Withdraw the correct coin from your balance using the inventory buttons.
I have coins but "Submit" does nothing.
Your coins may still be banked. Pull them into your inventory first. Shop quests only take coins from your inventory.
Will spending coins undo a Hoard reward?
No. Hold-to-complete quests only check that you are holding the coins at the moment you claim. After that you can spend them freely.
Can I trade coins with friends?
Coins are per player. You can withdraw them as items and hand them over.
Are crates worth it?
Crates are for fun. Manuals and perks are the guaranteed route to power. A gold crate has a small chance of paying more than it costs; a Bronze Crate is a cheap thrill.
How do I earn coins fastest?
Boss Slay steps and boss rematch contracts pay the most gold per hour. Codex entries and Overworld contracts are the gentlest steady income.
