Variants and cosmetics

Familiar colors, the Identity Vessel, and the weapons and hats familiars can wear.

How colors and cosmetics work in general is explained on the Familiars Lib page. This mod sets them up as follows.

Items that recolor familiars:

  • Dyes: on familiars with dyeable clothes (or hat), recolor them.
  • Shrunk dyes: dyes put through the shrinking station recolor the eyes. On the hunter, necromancer, plague doctor and bard, sneak while using one to color the second part instead (the dog's eyes, the skull's eyes, the lantern or the bard's hat).
  • Shriving Stone: resets any familiar to its original colors. It isn't used up.
  • Leaves on a druid: set its leaves to that tree's color (oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, azalea and flowering azalea).
  • Logs on a druid: set its wood to that wood type's color (oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, crimson, warped and bamboo). Stripped logs and wood blocks work too.
  • Logs on a hunter: set its crossbow to the same wood colors.
  • Ice blocks on a frostling: set its ice to that block's color: ice, packed ice, blue ice or snow block.

Identity Vessel

An Identity Vessel (from Familiars Lib) moves a familiar's colors to another of the same type, mixing them with the colors it already has. This is the only way to get mixed colors, such as a hunter with a blend of two biomes' palettes. How it works is explained on the Familiars Lib page.

In this mod, the vessel is obtained with rituals:

RitualCenterPedestals
Make a vesselBottle of SpiritTimeless Slurry, Shriving Stone (both consumed); Arcane Rune, Brewer Pottery Sherd (kept)
Duplicate a filled vesselIdentity VesselIdentity Vessel, Arcane Rune, Sculk Catalyst (kept); Timeless Slurry (consumed)

To duplicate, put an empty vessel in the center and the filled vessel on a pedestal. The filled vessel is kept, and the center vessel comes out holding a copy of its identity. An empty vessel on the pedestal doesn't work. Duplicating lets you give the same identity to several familiars without taking it from a familiar again.

Hats can be worn by the familiars with a hat slot: archmage, cleric, frostling, necromancer, scorcher and summoner. Which items count as hats is set by Familiars Lib (see Familiars Lib).
