"Origin Island sand" is the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
Other items for the familiar trinket slot:
- Pandora's Box: lets you summon and unsummon up to 10 chosen familiars at the same time (see Familiars Lib). Crafted with four familiar trinkets, logs and a Mithril Ingot.
- Cracked Hourglass: +10% cooldown reduction, and halves the stun of the Familiologist set. Brewed by putting a Clock in an alchemist cauldron with Timeless Slurry, or found in the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
Ring Curios
- Holy Water Grail: +5% mana regen, constantly heals tamed familiars at the cost of your own mana. Found in Priest Houses and the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
- Invisibility Robes: +50 max mana; tamed familiars that fall below 25% health get the invisibility effect. Crafted with an Invisibility Ring, Magic Cloth and a Greater Invisibility Elixir.
- Statue of Willpower: +5% spell resist; tamed familiars that fall below half health get the oakskin effect. Crafted with Mithril Ingots and a Greater Oakskin Elixir, or found in the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
- Heart of Ender: +15% cooldown reduction; tamed familiars that fall below 25% health can evade 2 hits every 5 seconds. Found in End Cities and Archmage's Settlements.
Familiologist Armor
A full armor set (helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots) with diamond-level protection. Each piece gives +125 max mana. Each piece is made at a smithing table from the matching Iron's Spellbooks wizard armor piece, with a Crystal Berry as the template and Arcane Essence as the addition.
Set bonus, with the full set on and at least one familiar summoned:
- Familiar protection: your familiars take less damage. The fewer you have out, the more they're protected: 50% with 1 familiar, about 35% with 2, about 18% with 5, and 5% with 10.
- Shared magic: you gain +25% spell power, split between the schools of your summoned familiars. For example, with a scorcher and a frostling out you get +12.5% fire and +12.5% ice spell power. Up to 5 familiars count: with more out, 5 of them are picked at random. Familiars from other mods only count if they declare a school.
- Last stand: when a summoned familiar would die, it's restored to full health instead and stunned for 5 seconds for each familiar you have summoned. Stunned familiars can't be hurt. The Cracked Hourglass halves the stun. The last stand comes before mana revival and totems, so neither is used while you wear the set.
The armor's tooltip shows your active bonuses while you wear the full set. The stun time per familiar can be changed in the config (see Config).
Familiar Idol
A staff for familiar keepers: 7 attack damage, +15% familiar damage (your familiars hit harder), +5% cooldown reduction and +5% spell power. Found by brushing the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
Familiar Egg
The Familiar Egg (from Familiars Lib) hatches familiars in a familiar bed. An empty egg brings back one of your familiars that died or was released: right-click it to choose the familiar and the color of its egg, then place it on a free familiar bed. It hatches after 5 minutes, at half health and asleep in the bed, once you're in that dimension with room to take and summon it. How it works in full is on the Familiars Lib page.
The empty egg is made with a ritual on a Sniffer Egg.
Consumables
Consumables are given to a tamed familiar by right-clicking it. They raise its stats permanently, up to a limit. For the multi-tier ones, each tier stops working once the familiar reaches that tier's limit, so you need higher tiers to keep going.
| Consumable | Stat | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Obtained |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Life Fruits | Max health | +10% (up to 50%) | +25% (up to 100%) | +50% (up to 150%) | Crafted |
| Armor Plates | Armor | +2 (up to 10) | +3 (up to 16) | +4 (up to 20) | Shrinking station |
| Power Essences | Spell power | +3% (up to 15%) | +5% (up to 30%) | +15% (up to 45%) | Dropped by magic creatures, upgraded with rituals |
| Resist Essences | Spell resist | +3% (up to 15%) | +5% (up to 30%) | +15% (up to 45%) | Shrinking station, upgraded with rituals |
- Life Fruits also heal the familiar to full health. The Life Fruit is crafted from an Apple and Arcane Essence. The Golden Life Fruit is a Life Fruit surrounded by Gold Ingots, or a Golden Apple and Arcane Essence. The Draconic Life Fruit is a Golden Life Fruit surrounded by Dragonskin.
- Armor Plates: shrink an Iron Ingot (Iron Plating), a Diamond (Diamond Plating) or Netherite Scrap (Netherite Plating).
- Power Essences: the Lesser Magic Power Essence is dropped by magic creatures such as Necromancers or Archevokers. Higher tiers are made with rituals.
- Resist Essences: shrink a Shriving Stone into a Lesser Magic Resist Essence. Higher tiers are made with rituals.
- Tiny Shield: gives the familiar a 10% chance to block attacks. Limit 1 per familiar. Made by shrinking a Shield, and also found in weaponsmith chests and the Origin Island's suspicious sand.
- Strange Mushroom: gives the familiar a stack of enraged: +0.5 attack damage per stack, and when hit, it has a chance to consume a stack to gain heartstop for some seconds. Limit 10 per familiar. Dropped by Mooshrooms and from shearing bogged.
- Life Gem and Rusty Helmet are found while exploring. They can't be given to familiars directly: a Life Gem is crafted into a Golden Life Fruit, and a Rusty Helmet is shrunk into Netherite Plating.
Use the Magic Eye to check a familiar's spell power and spell resist progress.
Familiar Eggs
Typed Familiar Eggs (such as a Druid Egg) hatch a new familiar of one type. Place one on a free familiar bed: after 5 minutes it hatches a familiar that's yours from birth, at half health and asleep in the bed. Whoever places the egg becomes the owner.
These eggs are made with rituals on a Sniffer Egg: the archmage, druid, frostling, hunter, lightning mage, summoner, necromancer, scorcher and dragoon eggs. The cleric, plague doctor, illusionist and bard are obtained their own way (see each familiar's Spawn line); modpacks can add rituals for their eggs with a datapack.
Familiars hatched from typed eggs start with their original colors, except familiars whose colors come from the biome, which take the colors of the biome where they hatch. Hatching one earns the Reincarnation advancement. Each egg is tinted in its familiar's color.
Familiar shards have been replaced by typed eggs and can no longer be made. Shards you already have still work, creating their familiar when used.
Spellbooks
- Tome of Familiar Alignment: +200 max mana, +12% cast time reduction and +8% spell power. When equipped, your summoned familiars share half of your magic bonuses (what you have above the base value), split evenly between them: with 1 familiar out it gets 50% of your bonus, with 2 each gets 25%, with 10 each gets 5%. This covers spell power, spell resist, and every school's power and resist, including schools from addons. Crafted with a Diamond Spell Book, four familiar trinkets, two Memory Fragments, a Mithril Ingot and Magic Cloth.
Other Items
- Familiar Guide: the in-game guide to this mod's items, blocks and rituals. Click any item that has its own entry to jump to it.
- Magic Eye: use it like a spyglass and look at a familiar to see its spell power and spell resist upgrades. Crafted from a Spyglass and four Arcane Essence.
- Crystal Berry: sometimes dug up by the Sniffer (10% of its finds), can be fed to your familiars to get Memory Fragments. Also the smithing template for the Familiologist armor.
- Memory Fragments: remnants of familiars' forgotten past, they lead you to what familiars treat as home.
- Bottle of Spirit: the core material to conjure familiars into the world. Obtained by catching Lost Souls on the Origin Island with empty bottles. Bottled souls can be released back into the wild.
- Mirror of Truth: makes disguised illusionist familiars reveal themselves. Made with a ritual on a Visibility Ring.
- Venomous Spider Fang: used to brew poison vials and heal plague doctor familiars. Dropped by Cave Spiders.
- Poison Vial: give it to a tamed druid to turn it into a plague doctor. Brewed by putting a Venomous Spider Fang in an alchemist cauldron filled with Strong Poison.
- Mysterious Orb (Tunes 'n Tomes): right-click it to get the Bard Harp and the Lost Melody trinket. It only works once you've earned the Anthropologist advancement, by taming every type of familiar. It has no default recipe; modpacks can provide one with a ritual datapack.
- Tiny Totem: made by shrinking a Totem of Undying. It can be bound to a familiar, and a familiar can only be bound to 1 totem at a time. When the bound familiar dies and it can't be revived with mana, the totem is consumed to revive it at half health. The totem works from anywhere in your inventory.
Blocks
- Ritual Core and familiar statues (archmage, hunter, druid and cleric): the ritual site.
- Ritual Automator: runs rituals with an archmage (see Ritual Automator).
- Scroll Reroll Station: rerolls scrolls with an archmage (see Scroll Reroll Station).
- Sculpture Station and sculptures: see Sculptures.
The Familiar Bed, Familiar Storage, Shrinking Station, the Familiar Compendium, the Identity Vessel, the Familiar Egg, and the Familiar Camera and its photos are provided by Familiars Lib, so every familiar mod shares them. Worlds made before the bed, storage and shrinking station moved there keep those blocks.
